From The Archive: Early Works
55 Portraits by Sabine von Falken
At the Lisa Vollmer Photography Gallery in Great Barrington
Open by appointment
2019 marks 55 years of working as a photographer for Sabine von Falken. The upcoming exhibition: From the Archive: Early Works - 55 Portraits by Sabine von Falken is curated by her daughter Lisa Vollmer. "My mother's archive is such a great treasure. Every time I visit the archive with her, I am amazed by what we discover. I decided to choose 55 portraits that embody her lighthearted spirit and deep connection with the people she photographs - this is reflected in her beautiful work." The selection of photographs includes prints from when she began as an artist to the 1990s when she created the Morning Face and The Artist Series.
Sabine von Falken has created lyrical and personal statements about people and places since the 1970s. Her photographs reveal the essential and often hidden emotional core of her subjects.
Born and educated in Germany, she studied and apprenticed a three-year program at Handwerkskammer Dortmund, Germany, under master photographer Kurt Leinen and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Photography.
Also on view will be Arrival from the Airport Series which is in our permanent collection...if you missed this show you have another chance to see these hand-printed photographs taken by Lisa Vollmer in 1997 at the Chicago International Airport.
